Keep Your Shirt On

35-38″Keep your shirts on; keep the lights on! Be like house servants waiting for their master to come back from his honeymoon, awake and ready to open the door when he arrives and knocks. Lucky the servants whom the master finds on watch! He’ll put on an apron, sit them at the table, and serve them a meal, sharing his wedding feast with them. It doesn’t matter what time of the night he arrives; they’re awake—and so blessed!
39-40″You know that if the house owner had known what night the burglar was coming, he wouldn’t have stayed out late and left the place unlocked. So don’t you be slovenly and careless. Just when you don’t expect him, the Son of Man will show up.” Luke 12 (MSG)

35 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak. 39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Luke 12 (NIV)

We are trying to be ready…
We want to be dressed and ready when He returns.  In the last few weeks, there has been a great hub-bub about Jesus returning and subsequently that He didn’t return when a mere man said He would.  But the fact is…HE IS GOING TO COME BACK.

You don’t really believe that?  Frankly, it doesn’t matter what you or I think about it.  He IS coming back.  The Bible tells us that He is.  You don’t believe that the Bible is true?  Again…it doesn’t matter.  It is.

So where does that leave us?  We have to be ready.  We have to be his servants waiting for His return…so when He knocks, we can swing the door open wide and be ready.  Dressed, with the lamps burning.

That’ll look different for you than it does for us.  We are seeking Him and searching out what that means for us.  You do the same.  Be ready.  Be dressed.  Wouldn’t it be a tragedy if you not only didn’t hear the knock when He comes, but you weren’t even”in the house?”
